4×4 Aluminum In-Ground Mailbox Post

$250.00

The Vsons 4×4 aluminum in-ground mailbox post is the most robust post in the lineup — a heavy-duty, rust-free support built for permanent installation and maximum visual presence. Constructed from 1/8″ thick aluminum with a black powder-coat finish, it includes a dedicated in-ground extension that anchors into concrete while the main post sits fully above grade. It also fits over a standard 4×4 wood post if one is already in place. Mounting hardware included.

Compatible with Anthony, Jeremy, Eden B, and Era B post-mount mailboxes. Concrete not included.

🔧 Installation +

Option A: In-Ground (concrete)

  1. Dig a hole approximately 12–14″ deep, 6–8″ back from the curb.
  2. Set the included in-ground extension in the hole and pour concrete around it. Use a level to ensure it is plumb.
  3. Allow concrete to cure fully (minimum 24 hours).
  4. Slide the main post onto the extension and secure it in place.
  5. Mount mailbox using included hardware. Verify 41–45″ opening height.

Option B: Over existing 4×4 wood post

  1. If a 4×4 wood post is already in ground, slide the aluminum sleeve over it.
  2. Secure with appropriate fasteners through the mounting plate.
  3. Attach mailbox using included hardware.

Note: The 4×4 wood post bracket adapter is not required for this post — the aluminum sleeve fits directly over the wood post.

🎨 Materials & Finish +

The 4×4 profile gives this post a substantial, architectural presence at the curb. The 1/8″ aluminum wall provides reliable rigidity while keeping the post lightweight — and the two-piece design means only the extension is ever buried in concrete, so the visible post stays clean above grade.

The aluminum alloy provides permanent corrosion resistance, so it will not rust, pit, or degrade even in coastal or high-humidity environments. The Federal Highway Administration recommends mailbox posts that yield on vehicle impact — unlike rigid concrete or heavy steel pipe, aluminum flexes under impact load rather than becoming a hazard.

Finish: Matte black powder-coat, UV-stabilized. Designed to coordinate with Vsons Anthony (black), Jeremy (black), Eden B, and Era B mailboxes.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions +

What is the difference between the 4×4 post and the 2×2?
Profile and visual weight. The 4×4 is the largest post Vsons makes — a full 4″ square section that provides the most substantial visual presence at the curb. Choose the 4×4 if you want a bolder, more prominent look or if your HOA requires a specific post size. Both posts use the same 1/8″ aluminum wall thickness and the same two-piece extension design.

How does the in-ground extension work?
The post ships with a separate aluminum extension piece that sets into concrete below grade. The main post slides onto the extension above ground, so the visible portion of the post is never buried or exposed to soil or moisture underground.

Can I use this post if I already have a wood post in the ground?
Yes. The 4×4 aluminum sleeve is designed to fit over a standard 4×4 wood post (actual dimensions 3.5″ × 3.5″). This is a good option if you're replacing an existing mailbox but want to reuse the post foundation. No new concrete is needed in this case.

Does this post need concrete?
For in-ground installation, yes. One 50 lb bag of quick-set concrete is typically sufficient. If you're using this as a sleeve over an existing wood post, no new concrete is needed.

How does aluminum compare to stainless steel for a mailbox post?
Aluminum cannot rust in any condition — including coastal and salt environments. Stainless steel 304 is also corrosion-resistant but can develop surface spots from airborne salt contamination in oceanfront locations. For coastal homes, the aluminum 4×4 post is the better long-term choice. For inland homes, both materials perform identically.
