Post-mounted mailboxes for curbside delivery — available with matching aluminum and stainless steel posts. USPS-approved, rust-proof, North American made. Anthony & Jeremy models in aluminum, stainless, or marine-grade stainless. From $135 with free shipping over $100.

When You Need a Post-Mounted Mailbox

A post-mounted mailbox is required when your mail carrier delivers to the curb rather than to your door — the standard method on most rural and suburban U.S. routes. Your local post office determines which delivery method applies to your address.

Post-mounted is required when:

  • Your mail carrier delivers curbside without leaving their vehicle
  • You live on a rural or semi-rural postal route
  • Your neighborhood has centralized curbside delivery points

USPS placement requirements: Bottom of mailbox opening 41"–45" from road surface. Post 6"–8" back from the curb. Door opening facing oncoming traffic. Not sure which type you need? See our wall-mounted vs post-mounted guide.

Post-Mounted Mailbox Models & Options

Need a large mailbox with post? The Jeremy Wide (11.5") handles catalogs, magazines, and small packages with ease. Both families are USPS Size C2 approved.

Locking Post-Mounted Mailbox Options

Curbside mailboxes sit near the road and away from your home — making them a target for mail theft. The Anthony and Jeremy models offer an optional keyed lock across all material grades. Your carrier delivers through the front slot as normal; only you can open it.

A locking mailbox with post is especially recommended for rural routes, vacation properties, and any box positioned out of direct sightlines from the house. The lock is integrated into the design — not a padlock bolted on.

Models with locking options: Anthony (all materials), Jeremy Wide (all materials).

Materials & Construction

Powder-Coated Aluminum (5052-H32)

14-gauge, 100% rust-proof. Resists UV, scratches, and fading in any climate. Most popular for post-mounted installations. Available in black and white.

304 Stainless Steel

16-gauge architectural-grade brushed finish. Premium look for moderate environments. Not recommended within 1 mile of saltwater.

316L Marine-Grade Stainless

Molybdenum-enhanced for coastal salt air. Required for homes within 1 mile of the ocean. Available on Anthony and Jeremy.

Installation

Most Vsons post-mounted mailbox installations take 45–60 minutes. You need a post hole, quick-setting concrete, and basic tools. All mounting hardware ships with your mailbox.

USPS height requirement: Bottom of mailbox opening must be 41"–45" from the road surface. Post set 6"–8" back from the curb.

Dig below your local frost line to prevent heaving in winter — typically 24"–30" in mild climates, 36" in freeze-thaw zones. Our posts are pre-drilled for the mailbox mounting bracket.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a post-mounted mailbox?

A freestanding mailbox on a post near the road for curbside carrier delivery. Standard for most rural and suburban U.S. routes. For a contemporary mailbox with post that complements modern or transitional architecture, Vsons Design models offer clean architectural lines unavailable in builder-grade alternatives.

Are Vsons post-mounted mailboxes USPS approved?

Yes — Anthony, Jeremy, Era, and Eden are all USPS Size C2 approved. Mount the bottom of the opening 41"–45" from the road surface for full compliance.

What post do I need?

Depends on your surface (soil vs. concrete), climate, and finish preference. In-ground posts set in concrete are the most permanent. Surface-mount posts work on existing driveways or pads with no digging. All Vsons mailboxes also fit standard 4×4 wood posts via our bracket-adapter.

Can I lock a post-mounted mailbox?

Yes. The Anthony and Jeremy offer optional keyed locks on all material grades. Carrier delivers normally; only you can open it. Recommended for rural routes, vacation homes, and high-theft areas.

What's the best material for a curbside mailbox?

Aluminum for most climates — 100% rust-proof, zero maintenance. Stainless 304 for a brushed metal look in moderate environments. 316L marine-grade stainless or aluminum for anything within 1 mile of saltwater. Avoid mild steel or plastic — they fail within 2–5 years outdoors.

Anthony vs Jeremy — what's the difference?

Width. Anthony is 8.5" wide (standard). Jeremy is 11.5" wide — the large mailbox with post for households that regularly receive catalogs, packages, and oversize mail. Same depth, height, materials, and locking options.

How much does a mailbox and post cost?

Mailboxes from $135. Posts from $140. A complete mailbox-and-post kit runs $275–$700 USD depending on model, material, and post type — between builder-grade ($30–$60) and custom fabrication ($800–$1,500+).

Are Vsons Design mailboxes made in North America?

Yes. Vsons Design mailboxes are engineered and manufactured in North America. We use American-sourced aluminum and stainless steel. Every mailbox is designed by Patrick Vincent and produced by our team — not imported.
